The Kind of Books I Want to Write
When someone finishes one of my books, I don't necessarily want their first thought to be:
"That was well written."
Of course, I hope it was.
But what I really want is something different.
I want you to miss the characters.
I want you thinking about them while making coffee the next morning.
I want you wondering what happens after the epilogue.
I want a particular scene to randomly wander back into your thoughts three days later.
And, every once in a while, I want you to close the book and simply sit there for a second.
Because those are the stories I love.
I've always been drawn to books that allow me to disappear somewhere else.
Give me old cities.
Candlelit rooms.
Family secrets.
Ancient legends.
Complicated characters.
A little danger.
A touch of the supernatural.
And above all else, give me a love story worth believing in.
My books may take place in different worlds and even different centuries. One story might involve vampires, witches, prophecies, and reincarnation while another takes you wandering through Christmas markets or transports you hundreds of years into the past.
But at their heart, they're connected.
They're about love, belonging, destiny, and the strange ways our lives become intertwined with others.
I write for the romantics.
For the dreamers.
For the readers who have ever looked at an old building and wondered what happened there.
For anyone who has felt strangely homesick for somewhere they've barely known.
And for those of us who still like to believe that perhaps the world holds a little more magic than we can see.
Those are the stories I want to tell.
Stories that feel like escaping into another life for a little while, and leave you wishing you could stay just a few pages longer.
